February 14th is a day the whole world celebrates and feasts in honour of the catholic priest and martyr St. Valentine. There is a tendency for many people to feel unloved and depressed today, especially the singles among you reading this.

I’m here to show you that you can enjoy today and be very happy irrespective of your relationship status. No! I’m not pulling your legs. I’m here to say you can do it. I will try and keep this blog post shorter than my usual posts.

Today is Wednesday, and I know most people reading this probably have a 9–5, and free personal time is a luxury on Wednesdays. Here are three things to practice that would make you enjoy Valentine’s Day irrespective of your relationship status and keep your peace. Let’s begin!!!

TIP 1: SPREAD JOY AND POSITIVE VIBES

Today is a day of love. I don’t care if you are in a relationship or single. Spread love today. Be kind. Help people. Give hope and gifts. Today is a day to give and show love, but most people focus on getting love. I enjoy using today to give to the charities on my list as a single person. Don’t be a party pooper.

Be happy for your friends who get gifts today, don’t sulk or wallow in self-pity. Do things you know that would make you happy (if you are single) or make your partner happy (if you’re in a relationship). Spreading joy will make you feel good and help you enjoy today.

TIP 2: DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS

Comparison is the thief of joy — Theodore Roosevelt.

I know the St. Valentine’s Day celebration falls on a Wednesday— today — but that would not stop people from flooding their social media pages with gifts and expensive dinner experiences with their significant others. Avoid comparison. If you are single, know that you’re not the only single person in the world today,

so do not compare yourself with those in relationships who would flaunt all they got as gifts or where they’re going today. If you are in a relationship, avoid comparing Valentine’s gifts and experiences between you and everybody on your Instagram timeline.

Be grateful for what your partner (referring to both sexes now) got you, and show gratitude and appreciation. And if your partner didn’t get you anything, this is where the first tip, I explained, comes in.

TIP 3: YOU CAN FLAT-OUT IGNORE VALENTINES DAY

This tip is for the single people reading this. If you are in a relationship, don’t be an asshole. Celebrate St. Valentine’s Day with your partner.

As a single person, no rule states you must acknowledge today as Valentine’s Day and celebrate it.

Don’t let social media pull you into a pity party of one. Today might be February 14th, but it is also Wednesday, and tomorrow would be Thursday. Don’t let a celebration that only happens once a year stop you from securing the bag. Because in the end, Valentine’s Day gifts wouldn’t pay the rent nor put food on your table. Plus, if you do a good job this month, you can take a vacation/trip to reward yourself later this year.

There you have it! Three tips to enjoy St. Valentine’s Day. And remember, spread joy, love and good vibes throughout today.
