They are usually charming, sweet, feminine and apparently “easily hurt”.
They are masters of camouflage. They are emotionally manipulative and insecure. They have an extreme sense of entitlement, lack empathy, and have a grandiose self-image.
They will do anything to ensure their needs are met, and no one is allowed to criticize them. They will hide their genuine emotions from everyone they meet and may even make you feel like you’re the only one who knows them. If this sounds like your girl, but you still need a little bit more proof
Here are signs of dating a female narcissist, and you need to get out quickly. Let’s begin!
SIGN 1: THEY LOVE PLAYING VICTIM
A female narcissist usually portrays herself in agony, “playing the virtuous victim”. They typically partake in “covert narcissism”.
Covert narcissism is a form of narcissism whereby female narcissists feel special because they believe their pain is more important than anyone else’s. This is where you hear them utter phrases like “I’ve suffered more than anyone else in this relationship”.
When using covert narcissism, they’re usually very passive-aggressive. They aren’t outwardly boastful because they’re constantly playing the martyr (victim), but other narcissistic traits like; a sense of superiority over others (this can be exhibited as a form of virtue signalling), the constant envy of other people’s talents, possessions, abilities, etc., their hypersensitivity to criticism and total lack of boundaries are present.
Side note: virtue signalling means publicly expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one’s good character or the moral correctness of one’s position on a particular issue. Don’t thank me, thank Google. You’re welcome all the same.
SIGN 2: THEY ARE USUALLY VERY SHALLOW
A common denominator of all narcissists is their insecurity. The female narcissist will try and mask her insecurity with superficial things. They are usually overly concerned with their physical appearance and social image. i.e., using their bodies and their environment as a way to express their narcissism.
Material items like the latest gadgets, bags, clothes and cars validate their insecurities. They usually possess a sense of entitlement in their physical self-perception. The female narcissist isn’t genuinely interested in character and values except if it helps validate her social image. This form of narcissism is called “somatic narcissism”. Their sense of worth comes from their bodies and their physical spaces.
SIGN 3: THEY ARE USUALLY VERY COMPETITIVE AND ARE PRONE TO ENVY
Female narcissists have this innate desire to be the smartest, prettiest, most successful and most charming woman in the room. Like their male counterparts, they are usually conversation hoggers. They need the entire conversation to be about them and their views.
The moment they can’t see a way to make the conversation about them or run out of things to say (things centred around them and their achievements), they’re no longer interested in the conversation.
You’d see this sign play out when they use shame tactics to remove women who appear more excited or threaten their position as the centre of attention in any conversation or social gathering. They often do this to their colleagues, friends (which they have so few of) and acquaintances.
SIGN 4: VIOLENCE AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE ARE THEIR STOCK IN TRADE
There is a mistaken belief that female narcissists aren’t as violent as their male counterparts. This could not be further from the truth. Female narcissists are just as emotionally abusive and violent.
Cases are not reported due to shame from male victims, who refuse to speak up about the issue. Female narcissists usually appear kind, friendly and helpful in front of outsiders, but they abuse their victims behind closed doors. Female narcissists are just as rageful and contemptuous as their male counterparts.
Ultimately, while male narcissists are usually boisterous and outwardly recognizable, their female counterparts are much more socially manipulative and just as vindictive behind closed doors as their male counterparts.
They tend to play the victim much more than males: they know society will take them much more seriously than males. They are also highly jealous and can be overbearing, superficial and unnecessarily competitive.
So, if your girlfriend exhibits these signs, spoiler alert, you’re dating a narcissist. A man’s greatest need is peace, and there is no fucking way you’re going to have peace in a relationship with a narcissist. Just pointing it out there.
